Covenants Prayer Shawl Ministry
"Loving God by Praying for Others"
Covenant's Prayer Shawl
Ministry began early in 2008, when member Kaite
Nighthorse asked the Session if she could start a
ministry of making, blessing and delivering prayer
shawls to those in need. She quickly gained several
more knitters and crocheters, and the first shawls were
blessed on Sunday, 3/30/08. The first one went to
long-time CPC member, Dianne Felts.
Since then, Dianne Felts, Janis Bomar, Barbara Peters,
Susan Nimmo, Joann Nicholson, and Judy Hayes have
created, blessed and presented 70 shawls to both members
and non-members of Covenant. Some of the shawls have
been sent as far away as Maryland, and also to other
parts of Florida, to friends and family of Covenant.
The ministry receives as much as it gives, it seems, for
the crafters. Each recipient is selected by the Holy
Spirit and the shawl is prayed over by the crafter.
There is a solace and peace that fills the crafter as
she knits or crochets, participating in the praying
process to weave the hope and love and comfort of Jesus
Christ into each stitch.
The children of Covenant also participate as the
shawls are blessed during the Sunday morning church service, with the children
laying their hands on the shawls while Pastor Shepp asks
God to address the special needs of each recipient.
